SOLAR LIGHT
1st prize winner in G24i design competition.

G24i manufactures lightweight flexible solar cells.  The brief was to design innovative products using their technology.

During research it was found that one the reasons that solar technology has not become common in developing countries is that the cost of existing products is high. My aim was to provide low cost lighting for areas with no access to electricity.

During the day the lamp is opened out and placed in the sun to charge the battery. At night the panel is folded to form a conical lamp shape and used a source of light.

The lamp is manufactured by laminating together G24i solar panels, a LED bulb, a switch and battery. The sheet is then cut into the correct shape. The method of manufacture, the use of off the shelf components and the ease of transport keeps costs at the minimum and makes full use of the properties of G24i's unique material.
